Early
tropical breakfast at our Hotel. Today we will enjoy a full
day excursion at two impressive archaeological sites in the
area, Uxmal & Kabah. Begin a walking guided tour to the
architectural masterpiece of the ancient Maya civilization
Uxmal.
(Maya for That which was built three times or place of abundant
harvest) This archaeological site is surrounded by ancient
hills creating a magnificent frame for these series of settlements.
The picturesque quality of these sites is accented by the
geometric proportions of the buildings and its facades which
are beautifully decorated with stone filigree, The aesthetic
appeal of these characteristics is undeniable and the intricate
stone work is truly incredible. The architecture in this region
is distinct from other sites in the Maya World and the Yucatan
Peninsula, and is known as the Puuc style.
Uxmal is the site of one of the constructions most representative
of this style; The Governors' house considered by experts
as a wonder of an ancient world for its precision and architectonic
beauty. However, admiration and wonder will leave the expeditionaries
as soon as they enter the site and view The Soothsayers' Pyramid,
with its imposing height of 35 meters, holding in this elliptical
form a large number of enigmas still to be discovered. Don´t
miss the Nunnery Quadrangle and unique ornate façade,
and the Turtle's Temple. Then visit Kabah and admire the Temple
of the Codz-Pop, Its façade features 250 stucco masks,
representations of the rain god Chaac. Kabah also boasts an
excellent example of the architectural advance for the times,
the Maya arch.
We continue our Maya experience in Campeche, located in the
same state name, Campeche "the walled city", it´s
rich in colonial history and legends of pirates and their
plundering, thus, the amazing forts and bulwarks that still
stand in Campeche city were built for protection against their
attacks. Many of the architectural masterpieces built during
the Spanish occupation are now charming museums and gardens.
An exquisite sea food lunch will be served at Marganzos Restaurant.
Relax and enjoy a city tour, where you will ride through the
narrow streets, visit Campeche´s Main Plaza and enjoy
the beautiful scenery. Admire the architecture of the Anthropology
and History Museum, housed in a colonial fort on top of a
hill.
Overnight at the Hotel del Mar, located in a sheltered bay
facing the Gulf of Mexico, after lodging we will go for Campeche´s
"Antojitos cuisine" experience at "La Cenaduria"
This is the most traditional dinner place for Campechanos.
Meet local people. It's a small restaurant under the stone
arches that face the Plaza San Francisco in the barrio (neighborhood)
of San Francisco. This is the oldest part of town and it´s
located outside the walls, just north of the city. Don't leave
without ordering the horchata (a sweet milky-white drink made
of a variety of things, in this case coconut). For food, try
the turkey soup, which is wonderful, and the sincronizadas
(tostadas) and panuchos. (B-L-D).

Uxmal:
In 1996 was declared by Unesco a World cultural heritage

is the Governors' Palace it´s located here.
The
Political & Economic control was held by a select group
of individuals who through religious rituals served as intermediaries
between man and the gods.
Uxmal
was established as the capital of the Puuc Region.
Evidence
of a great hydraulic engineering system used to collect
rain water in "Chultunes" or cisterns which held
from 20 to 30 thousand liters of waters each.
Over
160 Chultunes have been located in the surrounding areas
of Uxmal.
Kabah
is an example of a gift of the Maya architectural construction:
The Maya Arch.

Architectural
masterpieces can be found spread throughout the city.
